Turkey celebrates April 23 Children's Day Festival

Across Turkey, communities large and small are celebrating
National Sovereignty and Children's Day, the public holiday
that commemorates the founding of the national parliament
of the newly declared Republic of Turkey in 1923 and
marks the role of children in the country's future.

In Turkey April 23 is celebratated as a national holiday and
all the workers get the day off. Even the stock exchange
in Istanbul (ISE) is closed on this day.

Mustafa Kemal Ataturk was the one who started Children's Day.
Ataturk was loving children and he often was saying that:
"Children are a new beginning of tomorrow".
He even dedicated the day 23rd of April to the children
which is today celebrated as Children's Day as well as the
date when the Republic of Turkey was founded.

This year once again children from all around the world are
coming together to celebrate their fest with shows, concerts
and activities in Ankara, Antalya and all around the country,
and also at Turkish communities abroad.

Inspired by TRT, Turkish National Radio and Television Institution,
schools and municipalities, too, are bringing together children from
different countries in Turkey to celebrate the fest as a symbol of
peace and inter-faith relations.

Last year a total of 2,500 students from 60 countries all around
the world arrived in the Mediterranean city of Antalya, Manavgat province
to mark April 23 Children's Day.

The day-long festivities on April 23 are transmitted into the
world via the international TRT-INT tv channel.

Children are our future
Like in Turkey, everywhere on Earth "April 23" should be made a
National Holiday just for our children, like mothers day and fathers
day...
