What the above has to do with my comment I don't know, but -- most of
the sins in your little list were committed quite some time ago, no?
Even the Falklands War, for instance, the history of which you
distort, took place more than a quarter of a century ago. The
Falklands were not and are not deserted, Karlamov -- about three
thousand people live there. They weren't especially pleased to see
their islands invaded and occupied by the right-wing dictator****p that
ruled Argentina. Even within your twisted logic, you make no sense --
if the islands are deserted and useless, why did the medal-heavy junta
have to invade them? National pride? It was Argentina that invaded the
Falklands, Karlamov -- Britain was quite willing to compromise.
WIkipedia:

"British diplomacy centred on arguing that the Falkland Islanders were
entitled to use the UN principle of self-determination and showing
willingness to compromise. The UN Secretary-General said that he was
amazed at the compromise that the UK had offered. Nevertheless,
Argentina rejected it, the Junta being constrained by massive popular
sup****t for the invasion and unable to backtrack; they based their
arguments on rights to territory based on actions before both 1945 and
the creation of the UN. Many UN members realised that if territorial
claims this old could be resurrected, and invasions of territory
allowed unchallenged, then their own borders were not safe."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Events_leading_to_the_Falklands_War

I would also point out to you that the British victory was a major
cause of the junta's fall -- so tell me, Karlamov: how many
"Argentinian human beings" might have died in a longer Dirty War? I
don't know of any civilians "slaughtered" by the British in 1982,
sorry; again, Wikipedia -- "The war lasted 74 days, with 255 British
and 649 Argentine soldiers, sailors, and airmen, and three civilian
Falklanders killed."

As to the older stuff -- Ireland and Scotland are perfect examples,
yes... but not for your agenda, Karlamov. The British left the Free
State quite some time ago, and relations between the UK and Ireland
are excellent. Northern Ireland is more problematic, of course -- but
the principle of self-determination is indeed observed. The people
there voted to remain in the UK. Britain worked hard to find a
solution to the violence; it "talked to terrorists," as it were. No
city in Ireland looks like Grozny, Karlamov.

Scotland? Wales? They have their own parliaments. Scotland is on the
verge of trying for full independence -- if it chooses that, I think
it's quite obvious that Britain would politely say see you later,
Scotland would become a member of the EU, and no hard feelings. No
snuffing of Scots in the toilets.

So, yes -- I think Britain is eminently qualified to lecture Russia on
"how not to conquer foreign lands." There was an immense dark side to
the British empire, as there was and is to any imperialism. Some
empires were a lot darker than others, though -- if you compare what
the Belgians or the Russians left behind, the British actually look
pretty good. India's the world's largest democracy, for example. Most
of the African colonies were better off under Britain than they are
now.

But that last line of yours is anyhow quite revealing -- which foreign
lands do you hope to conquer? Ichkeria? Doesn't look too good --
