??? That "reverse gear" eventually destroyed the said  totalitarian
Soviet state. Notably the RUSSIAN one, for other Soviet nationalities
failed to produce anti-totalitarian dissidents like, say, Solzhenitsin
(who actually invented 'totalitarism'). Other Soviet nationalities
could (still can) not think in that abstract mode ... they argued like
Petya: Latvian "riflemen" and "SS" had good reasons to be commies or
nazis cuz they were Latvians! And they still feel like Johnny's
"sovoks" - Chechen islamists have good reasons to be terrorists, but
Iraqi/Iranian/Afghan islamists have only bad reasons to be terrorists,
etc. Back to "sup****t and acceptance from the Russian people", where's
the proof? I guess that the Russians used to accept "patriotic
resistance" to foreign aggressions, rather than any totalitarian
ideology (whether communism or democratism). The odds are that without
direct German aggression (re: WW2) Stalin's totalitarian Soviet state
would have collapsed along with the creator.
