_From_ here, yes -- but, as you know, that doesn't make one
Latgallian. I've lived in Latgola since 1992. My wife was born here in
Daugavpils and studied in R=C4=93zekne. My mother grew up here; her father
worked in the prosecutor's office prior to the Soviet invasion. The
aforementioned were/are _=C4=8Diu=C4=BCi_, though. My first contacts with
_=C4=8Danga=C4=BCi_ were early, however -- a family friend wrote books in
Latgallian in addition to Latvian. My scant formal instruction in
philology was under Jezups Lelis. I had the pleasure of knowing the
late, great poet-philosopher Roberts (Avens) M=C5=ABks and the painter
J=C4=81nis Strods. Some of the people I'm closest to now are native
Latgallians.
