Well, self justification is sometimes part of it but one can notice as
this Polish article exhibits rather explicitly - "loss of touch"
produces arrogance with some judgments simply outlandish, e.g. how long
time Poland would need to reach "a decent Euro level", what the author
said - 60 years? My bet is 10-15.
After some time in a different society some people got so used to its
everyday norms that they use them to judge the old countries. Even
though the common sense says that such judgment should be based on
comparing what is one country is today with what it was yesterday rather
than how it looks vs. third country. The outcome of such invalid
comparison is often drives people to such psychotic criticism that one
can only shrug in response.
