You understand less about Hinduism than one would think. Hinduism is not
a given set of teachings, practices and theology. Broadly speaking,
Hinduism is the name given collectively to the various religious
practices that originated and developed in Vedic and post-Vedic India,
apart from Jainism and Buddhism(at the insistence of those religions).
It also does not include certain tribal religions. That being said, the
broadest defining aspect of Hinduism is the varna system, which
unfortunately spread its tentacles into every religion in the Hindu fold.
Now, how does one really go about proselytizing "Hinduism"? It's
virtually impossible. So instead, Hindu missionaries go about
proselytizing one or other of the streams of religious philosophies that
comprises Hinduism. The goal of VHP and other fundamentalist groups is
to _newly_ define Hinduism, with Ramakatha as the central or core
element, and life within Hinduism as being governed by the vedas and
smritis selected by themselves. This VHP policy is being clearly
reflected in the ramblings of Pradip**** Parekh(a big donor of his
wife's earnings to the VHPNA), who apparently considers South Indian
Hindus as being some sort of revanchists owing allegiance to their
immortal enemy Ravana.
