indicate for which purpose this map has been used?
Kind regards,

 [BASQUE] Toward a Federal Spain?

This is a Map of Spain I found in the National Library
(Biblioteca Nacional) in Madrid. It is actually a map
published in 1854 but it reflects the CURRENT state of
affairs.

According to the map, Spain is divided into 4
territories:

(1) The main territory is named "Espa=F1a Uniforme o
Puramente Constitucional que comprende estas treinta y
cuatro Provincias de las coronas de Castilla y Leon,
iguales en todos los ramos economicos, judiciales,
militares y civiles" (Translation: This is the Uniform
Spain or Purely Constitutional Spain which encompases
the thirty-four provinces of the crowns of Castille
and Leon, equal in all economic, judicial, military
and civil respects).

This is the MAIN part of Spain. It contains its
current capital, Madrid, as well as the regions of
Andalusia, Castille, Galicia, Extremadura, Asturias,
Rioja, and Cantabria.

(2) The second largest territory is named "Espa=F1a
Incor****ada o Asimilada que comprende las once
provincias de la Corona de Aragon, todavia diferentes
en el modo de contribuir y en algunos puntos del
derecho privado"

(Translation: it is not easy to translate
"incor****ada" or "asimilada". Incor****ada means added
or attached, as if this was NOT REALLY part of the
country. "Asimilada" means assimilated, digested or
taken advantage of -you assimilate or digest food;
neither word gives the impression of "equal
treatment"; if anything, they give the impression of
these being territories incor****ated BY FORCE or BY
THE RIGHT OF CONQUEST to the main part of the country.
Having said this, the text reads: This is the added or
assimilated part of Spain and it comprises the eleven
provinces of the Crown of Aragon, STILL DIFFERENT WHEN
IT COMES TO TAX PAYMENTS OR CONTRIBUTIONS, AND WHEN IT
COMES TO SOME ASPECTS OF PRIVATE RIGHTS).

This territory encomp***** what is now Catalonia, the
Balearic Islands (Mallorca and other islands),
Valencia and Aragon.

(3) The third territory is labeled "Espa=F1a Foral".
This territory contains the Basque Country and
Navarra.

(4) The fourth territory is the "Espa=F1a Colonial".
It contains the Philippines, Cuba, the African
Colonies and the Canary Islands. Most of this
territories no longer belong to Spain.
