Death tolls rise in Dambulla and Fort bomb blasts; school baseball team
among killed
The death toll of yesterday's LTTE suicide attack at the Colombo fort
railway station has risen to 14 as two of the victims undergoing
treatments at Colombo National Hospital suc***bed to their injuries last
night and this morning (February 4). According to the hospital sources 8
more victims including a five year old child are undergoing treatments
at the incentive care unit at the hospital. Also, 70 victims are still
in the hospital wards, the sources added.
A female LTTE suicide bomber exploded herself last afternoon targeting
innocent civilians at the Fort Railway station, Colombo. Among the dead
are nine schoolchildren. Seven of them were the members of the school
baseball team of D.S. Senanayake College, Colombo while the other two
were schoolgirls. The coacher of the baseball team was also killed in
the carnage.
Meanwhile, death toll of the Dmabulla bus bomb has risen to 19 as one of
the victim undergoing treatments died at the hospital this afternoon.
LTTE terrorists detonated a bomb inside a bus plying from Kandy to
Anuradhapura on Saturday (February 2) morning. Majority of the victims
were Buddhist pilgrims going for a religious event which was to be held
at the sacred city Anuradhapura. 19 civilians including a schoolgirl
were killed and over 80 others suffered injuries in the explosion.
