Wanni liberation in progress; 35 terrorists killed in yesterday's clashes
Military re****ts received from the battlefronts in the North indicate
that the troops had been able to maintain the momentum of their
operation aimed at liberating Wanni region from the terrorists' hold.
According to the re****ts, 34 terrorists had been killed and at least 10
others had suffered injuries during these clashes.
Troops made the majority of their moves in the Wanni theatre of battle
inflicting heavy damages to the terrorists at Mannar, Vavuniya and
Welioya battlefronts.
On the Vavuniya front, troops confronted with the terrorists at several
occasions in the Vilattikulam, Kallikulam, Periyavalayankaddukulam,
Periyapantrichurichchan, Kovilmodai and Karampaikulam areas during the
day and claimed 10 terrorists were killed and 10 others wounded in action.
On the Mannar battlefront, troops clashed with the terrorists in the
general area Karakkalkulam and Thiruketheeshwaran areas last evening,
and claimed 11 terrorists were killed. Also, two soldiers suffered
injuries due to mortar fire in the Karakkalkulam area. Further, snipers
deployed in Vannankulam, Adampan & Perankamam areas re****ted that 11
terrorists were shot down.
On the Welioya front, terrorists launched an attack at troops in the
Andankulama area around 9, last night. Troops successfully retaliated
and claimed that one terrorist was killed in the incident. During the
subsequent search troops found 6 hand grenades. Meanwhile, a soldier
suffered serious injuries sue to an anti personnel mine explosion.
In the Jaffna theatre of battle, troops attacked a terror bunker in
Muhamalai area last afternoon and claimed 2 terrorists were killed.
Also, a soldier suffered injuries due to an explosion in the Nagarkovil
area on the same day morning.
