Not this moron again.
By on large the Gardai especially in Donegal I found to be pretty much
ok as long as you behaved yourself. I main experience of this was of
course in letterkenny which was host to hundreds of northerners every
weekend. Though I do know they took no **** when you stepped out of
line.
A case more worring than that of short was that of the McBreartys
again in Donegal. This government and several ministers of so called
justice where also involved in this case. This is the fundamental
problem. The garda is structured in a way that only the cabinet can
hold them accountable and they clearly do not have the real will to do
so. The Garda bill needs to be scrapped and rewritten creating
community driven policing which is democratically held accountable to
local communities. With a completely independant police oversight or
ombudsmans office which is not only independant of the garda but that
of the government.
