43 terrorits killed, 14 wounded in clashes at wanni and North
Intermittent clashes sparked between troops and LTTE ahead of Wanni and 
Northern defences yesterday (March 4) , re****tedly killing 43 terrorists 
and wounding 14 others. Four soldiers have also laid their lives while 
similar numbers were re****ted wounded, according to military re****ts.

In the Jaffna front in separate attacks launched at Nagarkovil and 
Muhamalai troops destroyed 2 LTTE bunker defences killing 3 terrorists 
respectively at around 2p.m., and 9p.m., security sources said.

At Vavuniya in general area Vedamakilam, troops observing an LTTE 
movement engaged small arms fire killing 2 terrorists and recovered 
following items during subsequent search operations conducted, at 2.20p.m.

a. 01 x T 56 weapon

b. 02 x Magazines.

c. 60 x T-56 ammunitions.

d. 01 x Hand Grenade.

According to re****ts received, 4 terrorists were killed in clashes with 
LTTE yesterday at Vilathikulama. Nine other terrorists were also 
confirmed killed in confrontations ahead of LTTE defences at Kavikulama, 
Palaimoddai and Karampaikulama, military sources said. Troops were able 
recover a radio communication antenna following search operations at 
Kavikulama.

A LTTE terrorist was killed sniped by SLA in general area Maruthankukam, 
security sources said. Meantime, a soldier sustained injuries in an LTTE 
laid IED explosion at Ubayantankulama, Vavuniya at 3.15p.m.

In the Mannar front, SLAF helicopter gun****ps assisted advancing troops 
with close quarter manoeuvres launching rapid fire at fleeing LTTE 
columns in general area Vannankulama, at 11.10a.m. SLA citing 
intercepted LTTE communication said that at least 5 terrorists were 
killed in the attacks. Separately, in general area Kattankulama source 
said that 9 terrorists were killed when troops overran a heavily 
fortified LTTE 'cross loading point' facility.

In general area Minukkap a terrorist was killed sniped, security sources 
said.

Separately, 16 terrorists were re****ted killed in confrontation with 
LTTE in general areas Mimukkad and Iraikkandal, sources said. According 
to re****ts received, a soldier has laid his life while another was 
wounded in confrontations.

In the Welioya front, terrorists attacked and destroyed a LTTE bunker in 
general area Andankulama. Troops confirmed a terrorist was killed and 
another wounded during confrontation with troops. In similar clashes 
ahead of Kokkutuduval defences, troops confirm 2 terrorists were either 
killed or seriously wounded.

Accordingly, military sources said that 3 terrorists were killed or 
seriously injured in clashes erupted between troops and LTTE in general 
area Andankulama, at around 2.20 p.m. A soldier was re****ted wounded 
during the confrontation with terrorists, security sources further added.
