The thing is these stories crop up all the time but they are often
nonsense 
or sometimes tell a twisted version of part of the story . Whether a
faction 
within the Anglican clergy want to remove St George as patron saint of 
England or not is surely neither here nor there. He is patron saint
because 
the English regard him as patron saint and it has no relavance to the UK
as 
a whole anyway. The barage that the Archbishop received from just about 
everyone shows that the idea would be dismissed instantly anyway. There is

of course an argument for having someone as patron saint who actually has 
something to do with England. St Alban does whilst as far as I know St 
George hasn't. Likewise I have heard some Scots suggest St Columba should
be 
our patron saint as Andrew only has mythical association with Scotland in 
that his bones were supposedly brought here. That is a different thing 
altogether though.
