Iraq's radical cleric may disband his army

****ite leader Muqtada al-Sadr says he may disband his Mehdi Army.
Aides to the radical Iraqi cleric say al-Sadr would be willing to
give
up his army if requested to do so by the country's most senior ****ite
religious leaders.
****ite leader Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani will now be required to rule
on
the offer by al-Sadr.
The offer by Muqtada al-Sadr to disband his militia is a first and
comes in reaction to an ultimatum set by Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki.
The prime minister has threatened to exclude the Sadr movement from
politics unless the clerical leader disbanded his militia.
