Javed Iqbal Kaleem is merely posturing. Beggars cannot be choosers.
Pakistan's ruling elite is now so dependent on foreign aid to live up,
that it has to be perpetually in kowtow. It is quite meaningless of
Javed Iqbal Kaleem to pretend otherwise and complain about "Unwanted
and Unacceptable US intervention in Pakistani Affairs".
Pakistan is among nations that have a significantly high foreign aid
to GDP ratio:
http://www.nationmaster.com/graph/eco_aid_as_of_gdp-economy-aid-as-of-gdp
According to figures at above website, Pakistan receives foreign aid
that is a whopping 1.1% of its GDP.
The rot started from the 1950s when it joined CENTO and SEATO in the
hope of brown-nosing its way into more aid. Pretty soon, like a drug
addict, Pakistan got hooked to foreign aid just to survive. Be it
"Field Marshal" Ayub Khan or Generals Yahya Kha, Zia ul Huq or Pervez
Musharraf, they were all into craftily ingratiating themselves to rich
nations for the purpose of extracting foreign aid. And needless to
say, the bulk of the aid flowed into the coffers of military and the
fauji organizations.
In fact, Pakistan's ruling elite has now become extremely crafty for
the purpose of extracting foreign aid. On one hand, it promises
cooperation against war on terror to aid donors. On the other hand,
they maintain relations with terrorist outfits on the sly.
Beggars cannot be choosers. Pakistan's ruling elite is now so
dependent on foreign aid to live up, that it has to be perpetually in
kowtow. It is quite meaningless of Javed Iqbal Kaleem to pretend
otherwise.
