The story is clear - these people rebelled against the decisions of the 
Berlin Congress that had detached Macedonia from the body of Bulgaria.
What they aimed to achieve was a Macedonia with a status of autonomous 
province similar to Roumelia. And theis was the Bulgarian policy
for the next 40 years. Of course, you know that the chief inspirator of
the 
rebellion, Nataniel of Ochrid was a bishop of the Bulgarian Exarchate who 
after the crash of the rebellion was moved as bishop of Plovdiv 
(Philippopolis). Ilyo voivoda and Dimitar Pop Georgiev then enlisted in
the 
Bulgarian army and faught in the Serb-Bulgarian war of 1885. All the 
participants died and were buried in Bulgaria as Bulgarian revolutionaries

and they have been respected as such.

The cause for the failure was that this rebellion was badly prepared and 
that the tactics of the rebels - organised "cheti" was not as productive
as 
desired.
