To****ba's bet on nuclear power is starting to pay off. In 2006 the
Japanese industrial conglomerate spent $4.2 billion on a 77% stake in
U.S. nuke builder Westinghouse. The money looked greener there than in
consumer electronics.
In April Southern Co. tapped Westinghouse to build two plants in
Georgia, at a cost of $4 billion each. The deal marks Westinghouse's
first U.S. nuclear construction in three decades. Scana Corp. is in
talks with Westinghouse to build two plants in South Carolina.
