The last big killer cyclone hit Bangladesh in 1991 and it had resulted
in 140,000 directed death.  Experts then lamented that all those
deaths could be prevented. Poverty more than wather was the actual
killer. If the country was welathier, it could afford to built more
cyclone shelter. If the country was welathier, the people could afford
better built houses rather than flimsy huts.

Natural disasters, including bad leaders, other elected or self-
elcted, are inevitable. While killer cyclones attracted worldwide
attention, mudane causes are often more deadly. For example,  870000
children under 5 had died every year in Bangladesh, 1/3 from diarreah
caused by the lack of pure water. Whatever the cause of such tragdies,
the only effective antidote is in the form of  more productive people
and consequently wealthier country. In the long run, the only course
of action is economic development.
