Usually the actual rate of economic growth in Cambodia is higher than
the projected one. The surprise has been on a pleasant one and it's on
the upside. It means that Cambodian workers are smarter than the
pundits and policy makers give them the credits for. The perception is
not the reality.
On the same token, based on that same analogy, Cambodia has an image
problem. It's no big deal. However, Cambodian people should be working
more on communication, cultural compatibility, language proficiency
and information exchange. Cambodian people should be investing their
time, energies and resources in getting the information and knowledge
rather than in working harder for their survival. This seems to be a
better strategy in the long run.
So, instead of sending children to the fields helping parents at work,
they need to send them to school to get the information and the
knowledge. Instead of spending time working hard on weekend, they need
to spend time together with their families and relatives on picnic,
pagodas or getting away onto some resort town along the coast or in
Ratta****iri. For those who have means, international travel is a
necessity in order to sharpen the Khmer image as someone who has
acquired language proficiency and cultural compatibility in a world
that is getting smaller by the minute.
