More than Two Thousand Evacuees in Central Cuba
Camagey, Nov 1 (acn) More than two thousand people were evacuated in
the northern coast of Camaguey due to the passage of tropical storm
Noel through this region of central Cuba.
Even though Noel has moved on to the Bahamas, off Cuba, rains
continue to affect the central and eastern part of the country.
Another im****tant measure taken by the Civil Defense Council was to
send to safe places more than 32,000 head of cattle, in order to
protect Camaguey's major economic sector, cattle raising.
Due to the rainfalls over the last two months, added to the heavy
downpours brought by the tropical storm, the water level is highly
saturated which is leading to floods even when the rains are not heavy
or permanent.
According to the latest damage re****ts from the coastal town of
Nuevitas, more than 120 buildings, including wooden houses, have been
damaged.
The Civil Defense Council keeps in contact with the media to maintain
the population informed. It is also keeping track of the water storage
level of the 52 reservoirs of the province which have reached 90
percent of their full capacity.
According to local weather forecasts, rainfall could continue through
the rest of the day.
