Latin American Students Congress Up and Running
Havana, Nov 13 (acn) The 15h Latin American and Caribbean Congress of
Students (CLAE) opened its doors to young people from 13 countries,
including the US and guests from Asia and Africa.
Education is one of the top issues on the congress' agenda. It was the
first topic of analysis for participants, who agreed that education is
vital for Latin American countries to achieve full independence,
re****ted Juventud Rebelde newspaper.
More than 3,000 young people, including secondary and university
students will explore actions in favor of Latin American unity, the
future of Socialism and fight against imperialism and minority rights.
Sebastian Cevallos, the president of the Ecuadorian University Students
Federation, welcomed delegates at the Ecuadorian Cultural Institution,
where the opening gala took place.
At the opening gala, the Latin American and Caribbean Continental
Student Organization (OCLAE) received the commemorative seal for the
85th anniversary of the Cuban University Students Federation (FEU).
Before presenting the certificate to OCLAE President Luis Arza, FEU
President Carlos Lage Codorniu, said the continental organization is
unique, aimed at fighting imperialism, since its inception.
Meanwhile, students said OCLAE should increase its actions to mobilize
forces in favor of the peoples of the region and rise to the new times.
The Latin American and Caribbean Congress runs until Saturday, November
17 in Quito, Ecuador.
