Peruvian Lawyer Calls for Methods to Stop US-Led Wars
Havana, Nov 15 (acn) The so-called "War on Terror" unleashed by the
Bush administration is not based on actions in defense of U.S.
sovereignty but on the flagrant violation of international treaties on
the topic, said a Peruvian lawyer Thursday in Havana.
Maria del Pilar Olavide, Peru's International Law School counselor told
acn that Wa****ngton's attacks on nations like Iraq and are crimes
registered by the international law.
Olavide is attending the 5th World Seminar and Workshop on Humanitarian
International Law taking place in Havana since November 14. She said
war and interfering acts threaten the national independence of the
target countries, while putting at risk the lives of civilians.
Speaking on the last working session of the conference held this
Thursday, Olavide called on participants to create a new international
legal framework to put an end to American imperialist actions.
The law expert stressed that wars not only result in dead and wounded
peoplebut also in hampering the developing economies, with an impact on
public life and services plus a usually large number of displaced
people.
