Representatives of Cuban Women Visit Suriname

Havana, Nov 20 (acn) Elpidia Moreno, of the Foreign Relations Office of
the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC), and Dora Carcao, coordinator of
the Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean of the
International Democratic Federation of Women (FDIM), are in Suriname to
strengthen ties with women's organizations in that South American
country.

Thus far, Carcao and Moreno have met with Nadia Ravales, president of
the Cuba-Suriname Friend****p Association, and also with members of the
Women's Front of the C-47 Trade Union Confederation and the
Lobi-Ku-Pasensi, a women's organization of the district of Brokopondo.

During these meetings, the Cuban representatives spoke of the women's
professional, social and working conditions on the island and also of
their im****tant role in society and the sup****t they have always
received from the revolutionary government.

Other topics discussed included solidarity and the demand for the
release of Ramon Labaino, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando Gonzalez, Rene
Gonzalez and Gerardo Hernandez - also known as the Cuban Five - who
remain unjustly imprisoned in the United States for fighting terrorism.

The Cuban delegation will also meet with members of Parliament,
representatives of women's NGOs, government officials and members of
the Cuban medical brigade in Suriname and others who are making their
contribution there as part of the free eye surgery program Operation
Miracle.
