World Peace Council Condemns US Blockade of Cuba

Havana, Nov 20 (acn) Members of the Executive Committee of the World
Peace Council (WPC) ratified their solidarity with the Cuban people and
demanded the immediate end of the US economic blockade of the island
during a meeting of this organization in Hanoi, Viet Nam.

Delegates from 21 countries who are participating in this meeting
demanded the end of this criminal economic policy that was almost
unanimously condemned at the UN General Assembly less than three weeks
ago.

According to Prensa Latina news agency, Souvanna Phouyavong, from the
Peace Committee of Laos, said that Wa****ngton's economic hostility
against Cuba is reprehensible, particularly in times when international
cooperation is expanding and all regions are looking for their
integration in a common interest.

Greek Thanasis Pafilis, General Secretary of the WPC, described as
absurd the continuation of this policy of blockade, in spite of
numerous resolutions approved by the General Assembly of the United
Nations.

He reaffirmed their solidarity with Cuba and demanded the immediate
implementation of the UN resolution that calls for the end of the
blockade.

Representatives from regional peace organizations, committees and
groups are meeting this week in Hanoi to check on the WPC actions this
year and to analyze the ones it will carry out or sponsor in 2008.

The main action in 2008 will be the General Assembly and Peace
Conference, scheduled for next April in Caracas, Venezuela.
