Cuban Musicians Silvio Rodriguez and Leo Brouwer in Chile

Havana, Nov 23 (acn) Acclaimed Cuban musicians Silvio Rodriguez and Leo
Brouwer will meet in Chile this weekend, the former to give a concert
to honor troubadour Violeta Parra at the O' Higgins Park, and the
latter to receive a tribute for his excellent career.

Silvio's homage will be the last of several presentations by
troubadours on the fortieth death anniversary of the author of one of
the most popular Latin American songs: "Gracias a la vida" (Thanks for
Life"). Some 50,000 people are expected to attend the outdoor concert.

Leo Brouwer, for his part, will be presented with the "Pablo Neruda"
Order to the artistic and cultural merit by Chilean President Michelle
Bachelet on December 3, re****ts the local press. The day after, Brower
is scheduled to give a concert at the Teatro Oriente in Santiago de
Chile.

This is Silvio Rodriguez's second trip to Chile so far this year. On
the first occasion he met with President Bachelet and gave concerts for
his Chilean fans. The renowned singer-songwriter has confirmed
attendance to the concert by his former maestro Leo Brower on December
4.

Brouwer is considered one of the major composers of the 20th century.
He has conducted the Cuban National Symphonic Orchestra and is titular
conductor of the Cordoba Orchestra of Spain. Among other distinctions,
the famous musician is Member of Honor of UNESCO, of the Italian-Latin
American Institute and of Granada's Fine Arts Academy. He was elected
UNESCO musician in 2001.
