US Lawyer Who Defended Cuba Dies at 96
Attorney Victor Rabinowitz, known for defending progressive causes,
died at age 96, on Friday, [November 16, 2007] at his home in New York.
The founder of the Rabinowitz, Boudin, Standard, Krinsky and Lieberman
P.C. law firm in New York was an untiring fighter for civil rights. He
also made a significant contribution to defending Cubas interests in
the United States.
Rabinowitz was a pioneer in taking on the Cuba issue and played an
im****tant role in obtaining rulings that favored the island. That
effort included defending the legal basis for the nationalizations
undertaken by the revolution and for the right of US citizens to freely
visit Cuba.
The founder of the National Lawyers Guild also represented Chile in
1971 when President Salvador Allende nationalized his countrys cooper
industry.
