Spaniards de****ted after protest in Cuba
Opponents and sup****ters of Fidel Castro have clashed in Cuba during
events to mark International Human rights day. The small group
protesting against the Cuban president at a park in Havana included
eight Spanish women. They were quickly surrounded and jostled by Castro
loyalists. The foreigners were eventually forced back to their hotel by
police officers.
Cuban authorities seized their pass****ts and airline tickets and told
them to stay in their hotel. They were later de****ted. Against this
background Cuba has said it will accept regular UN monitoring of its
human rights record from 2009.
Foreign Minister Felipe Perez Roque said signing up to the agreement
showed the country did not deserve to be "unjustly singled out."
The Spanish protesters had been expressing their solidarity with a
group of women "dissidents" [sic; these are the "women in white," all
relatives of CIA-paid mercenaries exposed in 2003 during Cuba's
roll-up of a network of US-employed provocateurs] who stage regular
demonstrations calling for the release of political prisoners. Cuba
denies anyone is imprisoned for their political beliefs, labeling all
dissidents as foreign-paid mercenaries.
