India Wants to Strengthen Relations with Cuba in Every Possible Field
Havana, Jan 10 (acn) The president of India's Lok Sabha (House of
People), Somnath Chatterjee, said Thursday that his country's
government and Parliament are interested in strengthening relations
with Cuba in every possible field and form. The Indian deputy told
local and foreign press accredited in the Island that his country is
seeking for greater interaction to strengthen bilateral cooperation,
which has been the main objective of his visit that started Sunday.
He said agreement was reached in different aspects during his meetings
with Cuban authorities. During the encounters the Indian official
confirmed his country's willingness to cancel Cuba's debt, amounting to
$64 million, a gesture that responds to an Indian foreign policy
tradition of believing in the importance of peace and friendship among
all the peoples for development and rejecting any kind of aggression or
interference.
The Lok Sabha leader extolled the Island's achievements in education,
culture, health, sports and science, despite the US-imposed economic
blockade, as well as its leadership in the Non Aligned Movement.
