This is some kind of stupid BS story. The problem is North Vietnam
right?. Nixon would be crazy to threaten Moscow with nukes to force
Moscow to rein in NV. Moscow had more than enough nukes to make the
US glow in the dark.
Wrong mission profile. A B-52 threat would fly over the North Pole as
the shortest route. The bombers would not use the route from east
Russia and then overland for more than 3000 miles. That's a suicide
one way mission (cannot refuel on way out even if no B-52s were shot
down) over heavily defended territory.
If Nixon wanted to nuke anyone it would be NV. All he needed would be
a single low yield N-bomb demonstration in some remote part of Vietnam
or even in the South China Sea near enough (12 miles off the coast)
to Hanoi to see the mushroom cloud but not enough to flatten any
population area and kill hundreds of thousands. That kind of warning
would scare anyone. This nuke thingy was never considered as it was
feared that an escalation would result with China and the USSR
fielding troops to fight the US. A Nuke threat directed at Moscow?
Hah.
