Water: 21st century's liquid gold

by "Albert K. Fung" <akwfung@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Mar 7, 2008 at 08:00 AM

Not worth its weight in gold ....

Yet. Nevertheless, a 21st century gold rush is in full force
in the People's Republic of California. Farmers are paid not
to water their crops. All over the state, water authorities
and water brokers are buying water rights from farmers.

It is far more profitable than income from growing produce.

Farm and ranch lands of the golden state soared, not for the
intrinsic value of the land but for the barrels of colorless
fluid that can be sold to desperate towns and cities who can
never have enough of them. While farmers are happy to have a
reliable source of income that are appreciating daily.

A win-win for all .... :)

Regards,
