古今殊跡 ....
For myriad reasons, has always been fact of life for Chinese
characters. CCP took a chapter out of the play book of 秦朝:
"秦滅舊章，以吏為師，乃李斯刪籀而秦篆興，程邈造隸而古文廢。"
(劉勰/文心雕龍/練字)
中國文化 to some is a bit romantic. Least one forgets, Concub
-ine, foot binding and indentured servitude were elements of
Chinese culture. On the other hand, imposition of political
ideologies on such an im****tant cultural elements is counter
productive. In that light, "simplification" is anything but.
India adopted English as an official language and is working
well.
Perhaps China should have done the same? .... :)
