The thing you're forgetting is that the US has the biggest guns in the
world.  If the US wants your oil, natural resources, etc., and you won't
accept anything but the "family jewels," the US goes in with its big guns
and takes what it wants and then throws some worthless paper money at you.

Your analogy forgets that the 'debtor' here can pretty much kill all of
its
'creditors' with relative ease.
