I read an analysis on why USA is losing to China in trade. It is NOT
about the RMB is under value, or the trade terms are unfair to the USA
under WTO. It is about how US managed it affairs.
Let me use one example to illustrate the point. The Defence
Industry...the sales of fighter jets ..it is a multi billions
industry...and the US is the biggest player.
For decades, the US earned billion and billions on fighter jet
sales...it has been the undisputed leader, way ahead of Russia,.... It
enjoyed monoply until now.
In February this year, China has joined this exclusive club with its
latest J-10 fourth generation jets. It has already sold and delivered
over 100 J-10 to Pakistan...and will be making deliveries to Iran and
other customers. China is competiting aggressively in this highly
lucrative business.
You see, the USA has been selling 3rd generation fighter jets to the
developing countries and
the earlier versions of 4th generation fighters (F-14, F-15, F-16,
F-18 and F-20) to Israel, Arab countries, Taiwan, and Singa****e...and
other friendly countries.
China, India and Russian wanted to by the F22 Raptor or the B-2
Spirit..but these 5th generation jets are NOT for sales...to
anyone ...friends of foes.
The Chinese J-10 and J-11 perform better, and have more advanced
technology than the older version of US 4th generation fighters ..more
superior than the Russian SU-27SK....in the following areas:-
-- the use composite material (mainly carbon fiber) for the aircraft
body surfaces..lighter and increased the life span of the aircraft.
-- the application of radar absorbing material..... making it less
visible to radar
-- Full air-to-surface / sea capability .. to launch various precision
guided air-to-surface and air-to-sea munitions.
-- Better radar technology ..for offence and defence..A comprehensive
ECM (Electronic Countermeasures) including active jammers, self-
protection jamming pod and electronic reconnaissance pod
-- Fully digitized solid-state avionics
-- Aerial-refueling capability
-- Thrust vectoring..the ability to stall the fighter in mid-air, to
flip over to fly in the opposite direction.
-- A bubble canopy provides 360 degrees of visual coverage for the
pilot...and a Chinese Helmet-Mounted Sight (HMS) is also standard
equipment.
The J-10 is a superior 4th Generation fighter jet ....than those
offered for sales by the USA, and the price at US$28 millions each is
much cheaper than the USA jets which cost more than US$50 millions
each....
Customers are looking for jets that could win air battles, ...down the
enemy jets or chase them away.
Jets built with 80s technology (old US jets for sales) will certainly
lose to those equiped with the latest technologies. It is obvious that
the USA is losing it.
