The founders of NED stated it very clearly.
They wanted NED to do some of the covert funding activities of the CIA
which was discredited by the Watergate investigation.
Jim, if you take money from the CIA and claim that it's for charity,
how many will believe you.
I think people can draw a distinction between true charity and CIA,
but since not many have heard of the NED, they get fooled.
That's the purpose of creating all kinds of bogus NGOs such as NED for
the CIA to hide behind.
