The western countries *do* get it correctly - they prohibit the
interference of the State with religion - which includes the use of
the State by one religion to suppress other religions - but they do
*not* prohibit or interfere with individuals voting on the basis of
their political views, which may reflect their ethical orientation
derived from their religious belief.
Thus, churches are not prohibited, in their activity of moral teaching
of their flock, to promote attitudes which may be at odds with the
current plans of the government.
It is not intended to prevent either rich businessmen, or churches,
from being centers of power that can stand against the government -
because it is only the existence of rival centers of power that can
prevent an unscrupulous leader from destroying democracy and replacing
it with dictator****p.
In China, they already have dictator****p, and the rulers want to keep
it that way.
