It's actually very difficult to put the torch out because there are
mechanisms within it to keep the flame lit inside. It's actually
quite a sophisticated bit of technology these days! I wouldn't say it
was completely impossible though, because there have been television
programs (broadcast in more peaceful times) that tell people exactly
what tech. the torch has inside of it, and the old saying - where
there is a will, there is a way - applies.
