Kevin Rudd speaks the plain truth at Beijing University

by Jim Walsh <jSPAMimNwalshO3@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Apr 10, 2008 at 07:28 AM

The leader****p of the CCP has no better friend than Australia's Kevin
Rudd. And, showing the depth of his friend****p, he spoke the truth
plainly and directly in a speech to Beijing University students the other
day.

The CCP would be wise to listen carefully to what he said. Sadly they
have indicated that they are deaf.

Quoting from a 4/10 New York Times article:
On Wednesday, the Australian prime minister, Kevin Rudd, used a speech at
Peking University in Beijing to raise human rights concerns about Tibet.
“Australia, like most other countries, recognizes China’s sovereignty
over Tibet, but we also believe it is necessary to recognize there are
significant human rights problems in Tibet,” said Mr. Rudd, a fluent
Mandarin speaker, .... But China has shown few signs of softening its
accusations against the Dalai Lama and continues to blame a “Dalai
clique” for the riots and protests that erupted March 14 in Lhasa. This
week, the state media disputed a list of Tibetan victims released by the
Tibetan government in exile, saying that many of the names could not be
proved to exist.

Quoting from that article:

Although Rudd's comments about 'significant human rights problems in
Tibet, might draw ire from his hosts Premier Wen Jiabao and President Hu
Jintao, China's top students appeared unfazed. Many went so far as to
agree with Rudd that handling ongoing unrest in Tibet peacefully and
through dialogue was the best way to resolve the issue that has placed
China's communist leaders under the global spotlight for nearly a month.
"I agreed with what he said," Li Yang, a graduate student in
environmental sciences, told AFP following the speech. "The Tibetan issue
should be resolved without violence and through dialog, this is correct."
