1. The recent riots made the DL eat his words. That's easy.
2. It will make the G7 leaders eat their words. That will be a lot
harder. But with their faux pas the G7 leaders will realise that
their unthinking sup****t of the DL and the Free Tibet riots will come
back to haunt them. This gives Chinese delegates an advantage in
future negotiations that have nothing to do with the DL or the riots
by reminding them of the mistake.....
3. The riots removes a very big bargaining position the DL may have
had once. Now the DL will have to kowtow really low and apologise
profusely before he can even think of asking for negotiations with
China. In other words China won't be hearing from the DL any time
soon. That's perfectly acceptable.
4. The Tibet Rebellion anniversary (March 14) came rather early but
it was not something that could be changed. By Aug 8 all the steam
behind March 14 would have been spent. The Olympics will be held with
minimal trouble and be a great success. A lot of the G7 leaders will
feel pretty silly for staying away because they were against China on
March 14. In my post OOPS! I predict that any Olympics after Beijing
will be pale shadows. Well its their (G& leaders') loss, not China's.
I think these vicious and unjustified attacks on China will give the
Chinese atheletes an extra psychological boost to "show them." Expect
gold medals where they were not expected. Expect also lots of
accusations of cheating from sore losers.
