Any "claim" by the Scots over Liverpool or Manchester would be both
ridiculous and irrelevant. Under the principle of self determination
it would be what the people who lived in Liverpool or Manchester want
that would be more to the point. It seems as though you have great
difficulty in appreciating this. Still if I had been brought up in an
autocracy then I might have similar difficulty.

Most people in the west would see Tibetans as the people who actually
live there. I have no doubt that some who live there are of Chinese
extraction just as some who live in the Republic will be of Tibetan
extraction. It does not matter.

What does matter is when people who live in a particular region
desire to be in control their own affairs. That desire for autonomy
must be respected and addressed otherwise it will fester and despite
repression will continue to fester even more. You can make people fear
you, You can't make them love you!

Why are you so afraid of the ballot box? It can't hurt you. It can
liberate and strengthen you.

With or without the ballot box China is going to change. As the world
becomes smaller and smaller in travel terms and narrower and narrower
in cultural terms, rest assured, that change is going to come. Let's
hope that it will be without pain anywhere.
