China's Great Leap: Human Rights Watch on the Beijing Games and Olympian
Human Rights Challenges

Olympic torch relay and this year's Beijing Games. Similar protests
condemning China's human rights abuses have attempted to disrupt the
torch along its earlier stops in Athens, Istanbul, Paris and London. We
speak with Human Rights Watch's Minky Worden, who is editor of a new
book, China's Great Leap: The Beijing Games and Olympian Human Rights
Challenges. [includes rush transcript]

was disappointed with China for "unfairly" accusing Tibet's spiritual
leader the Dalai Lama of masterminding protests in the Himalayan
territory. Richard Lugar, the ranking Republican in the Senate Foreign
Relations Committee, also challenged China to allow journalists and
diplomats full access to Tibet to determine whether Beijing allegedly
overreacted to the protests. "I am particularly disappointed that
officials in Beijing have chosen to attack the Dalai Lama and unfairly
blame him for the protests," Lugar said in a statement. "I am aware of
no credible evidence that he encouraged or instigated the protests,
which occurred across a broad area of the Tibetan Autonomous Region and
Tibetan areas of China," he said.

shamefulness to China and a disgrace for Chinese citizen. China 's image
more damage and unpopular. CCP's sin: Oppression, Brutal killing, silent
critics, violate human rights will stain Beijing Olympics sponsors by
association law. You sup****t the bad guy, your company guilty as they
were. Those companies sponsors' logo will stain with Beijing bloody
hand. Well do***ented: Tienanmen Massacre, Tibet Genocide, Darfur
Genocide link to China unethical business of oil for weapon sale. Burma
crisis is showing CCP, an animal's value, business over human life
