No, you get it straight. I've said this before. Gook comes from the
Korean word for country. Its a Chinese character that's pronounced guo
in Madarin, gok in Cantonese and goku in Japanese.
The Americans picked it up during the Korean war in the 50s and used
it in Vietnam in the 70s. The Vietnamese also used to use Chinese
characters before the cheese-eating surrender monkeys forced them to
change their written script.
So anyone who uses that character in their language can be called a
gook. Of course, there are other names for them. Nips and Japs for
Japanese, for example.
The Chinese can be called chinks, gooks, slopes and powerpoints (if
you've ever seen an Australian powerpoint you'll understand why).
