Re: Poll: Way More Europeans See China (Compared to India) as Next

by pg <penang@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Apr 24, 2008 at 08:13 AM

Actually, there's a simple answer to the poll.

Many people think that China is gonna be powerful, over that of India,
simply because they fear China.

Whether or not the fear can be substantiated, it doesn't matter. The
fear is there, and people are reacting to their fear.

And another answer that I can give you is, skin color.

People in the West are comfortable with white skin and black skin.
Those are the colors they have seen since they were kids.

Yellow, on the other hand, is something not normal.

The Indians, having black skin, much like the Blacks, or in
Politically Correct term "African American", can be easily mistaken
for blacks.

Chinese (or Korean, or Japanese, or Vietnamese), on the other hand,
with their skin-tone in the yellow category, wouldn't be so well
accepted.

In other words, yellow people just look "weird" to many people. And
China, being the country with 1.3 Billion "weird looking people" (much
like the little green-people from Mars), often conjures up a certain
feeling of discomfort / uneasiness.

And why people don't think India can become powerful? Most people in
the West, including the Blacks themselves, do not see "Black People"
as something worthy of much respect. India being the country of "black
people", fairly or unfairly, would gives people that "oh, they are
just like Africa, they just ain't going anywhere" thought.
