The ****traits of a Smoggy "Olympic Host" -- A collection of Beijings
Heavily Polluted Skies (Is This the True Reason Why the Chinese Mob were
so Angry?! )
-- Micky's humble opinion: These pictures shows the serious state of
Beijing's current air pollution, many of them are taken by ordinary
people who visited or lived in Beijing, what do Chinese "patriots" have
something to say about it ?! --

Yes, air pollution is an issue in Beijing, so terrible you can't see the
construction just across the street. Not to mention our lungs, eyes...

With heavy industries within the city limits and more cars taking to the
roads with each passing day, Beijing's air pollution crisis continues to
worsen. When this photo was taken on December 28th, the city's air
pollution scored a 500/500 on the city's 500 point scale, with 500 being
the most polluted.

A lot of friends have asked me about what the pollution is like in
Beijing. This week was particularly bad vs. my previous trips. I love
Beijing, but this week was like smoking a pack a day. What looks like
fog, clouds, or smoke above is smog. It was rough.

1 month ago: The Olympic Stadium known as the "Birds Nest " is barely
visible through the air pollution in Beijing on March 12, 2008. China
issued assurances that Beijing's air would be safe to breathe during the
Olympics despite re****ts that world record holder Haile Gebrselassie
planned to skip the marathon. The 34-year-old Ethiopian, an asthma
sufferer, is concerned that notorious pollution in the Chinese capital
could damage his health and even bring his career to a premature end.

Urban Art in Beijing
The workers are painted on! Look close at the guys on ladders, they are
not real. I viewed these from my room at the (new) JW Marriott in Beijing.

The 'bird's nest' will be home to the track and field events as well as
the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2008 Olympics.
I'm still not sure how I feel about this stadium design. What do you
think? The grey pollution sure doesn't help.

Another day in paradise
Well, I mean it's just another ordinary day in Beijing. The air was
smoky and the sun was fuzzy.
Anyway, I miss the time spent in Beijing.

The Olympic Games, which begin on the 8th of August 2008, could have
some of the events canceled due to dangerous risks of health problems
from low quality air. Pollutants such as particulates and ozone are
creating major hazards.

Leaving Beijing, this was the view from the airplane before takeoff. To
be fair this was not all industrial air polution. Beijing is relatively
close to the Gobi desert and a lot of this is really fine dust from sand
storms there. This, by the way, was the middle of the day. Also - this
is Not a sepia photograph!
