Free from what?  They used to be slaves in the time of high lamas.
Now they are free not to be owned.  In terms of other kinds of
freedom, they don't suffer any more than any other groups in China.
As a matter of fact, they are exempt from the one-child policy which
applies to other groups.  So what kind of freedom are you referring
to?
