Well, the Chinese would have avoided the disasters of the commune system,
the
Great Leap Forward famine, and the Cultural Revolution.
Instead of those negative developments, the Chinese could have had
domestic
capitalism with foreign investment and land reform as was accomplished by
the
KMT in Taiwan. Today Taiwan is an order of magnitude richer and it is also
free.
China suffered considerable damage in the war and it did not have the
advantage (as Taiwan did) of substantial infra-structure development
during
the 30s and 40s, but it is not hard to speculate that China would be much
farther ahead if it avoided the disaster of Maoism.
