I was poking fun at the original post but looks like this is a
serious discussion. There is no hurry to reunify in the near term and
it will be counter productive to force the pace. The main point of
contention was CSB's drive for separaton and independence. Mah has to
feel out his position as where to go vis a vis the mainland. As I had
said in an earlier post around 40 per cent of Taiwanese are
apprehensive and it serves no pourpose for Mah to upset them this
early in his term of office. China is in no great hurry as she has
already enough on her plate. By playing coy Mah positions himself to
get a better deal in future negotiations. Of course if Taiwan's
sup****t for reunification comes earlier China will welcome it.
Sentimentally there is very little difference between mainland
nationalism and Taiwan nationalism. We are all Chinese, speak the
same language, eat the same foods, laugh at the same jokes, use the
same idioms and both have first and multi-level kin in each other's
land.
I would invite demorising to tell us a bit more about himself as to
age gtroup and what he does fulltime. This little info should be good
enough for me to respond to him better. From his posts my impression
is that he is a young ABC whose parents were originally from Taiwan
and were very anti Mao for whatever reasons. Demorising has a good
knowledge of modern Chinese history to sup****t his positions. He does
read my posts in detail and is on the lookout to catch me out if I
made up stories. I don't fortunately for there are more than true
stories to go around. He is sincere in his beliefs and I had always
responded to his objections to the best of my ability. Now this is
the level of debate I really appreciate.
