A senior Chinese journalist complained bitterly to a colleague in
Beijing that the Government's days were numbered because the rescue
operations he had seen had been chaotic. But the story that he filed
for his newspaper the next day reflected none of those concerns. It
was a touching story of survival amid tragedy.
