After visiting Breizh and Kernow, I can say my grandmother could have
come from either place. There is a definite ethnic and genetic
correspondence between the people and the places. I'm sure you know the
history as well as I do. From my distance I can regard the 2 peninsulas
as both part of an ethnic whole, but from where you live nationalism may
cause a more myopic view likewise for some of our people in Australia
and New Zealand with regard to the hybrid (largely Celtic) culture we
both share.
As far as this post is concerned, I thought it might be of interest that
there are 40,000 students learning Brezhoneg and that there are so
many schools and colleges now teaching the language. The op****tunity you
now have with Kernewek is priceless - to teach it to the young people of
Kernow in the school system. The work of your Grand Bard on the BBC
website is really great too. Get together and forge an agreement to
unify the language. Hopefully the result will not lose mutual
intelligility with Brezhoneg or Cymraeg.
