Gaidhlig is spoken by communities in the Eilean nan S'iar (Western 
Isles) and is the first language to most people there (excepting 
Stornoway to some extent). As to the past and present(and future ?) - 
refer to my previous post which I repost below:

This attests to the widespread distibution of the language at the time 
and seems to correspond with the communities keen on reviving their 
language currently as expressed to Bòrd na Gàidhlig so far (particularly 
the Gaidhlig speaking area shown on map D):
