suggestions about how the Celts might have reached Britain as the
Gaelic sagas say we came from Galicia in Spain to Antrim in Ireland
and thence to Scotland.

Unless they avoided the Bay of Biscay by flying Aer Lingus (Ireland's
National Airline), I'm somewhat at a loss to think of any other route
they could have taken to get from Spain to Ireland unless they went
via the Caribbean, the Gulf Stream and the North Atlantic Drift!

The Gaelic sagas say that the Anglo-Saxons came from the Friesian
area, but that's probably a re****ter's invention.

My point being that the Sagas always check out as exact descriptions;
Gaelic oral culture having always insisted that no story should
deviatee by even a single word. 

In the ceilidh houses, the people would wait eagerly for the chance to
tell the reciter that he missed or substituted a word. 

In Canada, the British Columbia Supreme Court has ruled that native
oral accounts are acceptable as accurate spoken histories when
settling land claims with the government. 

I would think the same would be true for the Gaels, who place a high
premium on accuracy for such matters. Just because the Gaels didn't
file their oral histories with the National Do***ent Centre, doesn't
mean thay are any less reliable than written do***entation, especially
when one reads some of the extravagant claims made by the English
ruling class for their genealogies. It's only too easy for an ancestor
called Ned Fartingbrass the serf to become Edward Fortinbras, knight
at arms a few gundred years later, and indeed such do***ents are a
great deal less patroled for truth and accuracy than are the Gaelic
oral histories.
