Well, I could refer you to sources, try jane Smiley [!] but do you not 
understand that what is 'disputed' here is not if... but how. I regret I 
will not continue a correspondance with someone who does not admit what
the 
question is, and requires me to 'prove' Dickens, whereas, they commit 
nothing to their own sense of proving anything at all.

What an inane process!

The question is of /how/ we know. And if this raises anxieties and 
agressions, so be it. But the quesion is not answered by protesting 
undeclared basies of knowing things.

You see, if we cannot together agree even on Dickens, what shall we
conspire 
to agree on Shakespeate, on a thousand years before Shakespeare? There is
no 
answer, is there?

Dickens wrote about 4 million words. The total amount of Anglo Saxon we
have 
received, is rather less than that of this single author. The total amount

of dialeactical speech contained in the Chronciles is about 1,000 words - 
words! That is some matter of interest to antiquarians, and why some 
anthropological care might be taken in what chroniclers represented of
them. 
Should we be unable to interpolate even Dickens, then do we admit we are 
lost?
